Lunch & Learn Parent Ed (virtual): Apple Watches

Join us on Zoom for our Lunch & Learn parent ed: Apple Watches

Apple Watches are mini iPhones you wear on your wrist, designed and intended for adult consumers. They are more complex than other smartwatches designed for kids, so they require a high level of technology proficiency and ongoing management from parents to start and stay “simple.” For this reason, we do not recommend Apple Watches for use in elementary school.

With an intentional setup to minimize needless features and distractions, and with ongoing vigilance to notice glitches as they come up, the Apple Watch can be a reliable mobile communication device in middle and high school. Apple Watches have a range of available features you can leave on by default or remove.

In this session, we will discuss the pros and cons of Apple Watches specifically, how to set them up to be “simple” and what additional guardrails are needed to make them more appropriate for youth use.

Pre-registration required.

Our Lunch & Learn events are moderated by Rebekah Cunningham, our Director of Technology and 1:1 Tech Consultant who works directly with families to help them manage setting up tech use guardrails and boundaries. These sessions are limited to 20 participants to encourage active participation and space to ask questions and learn from each other.

We do not record our virtual Lunch & Learn sessions in order to protect the privacy of our participants. These sessions sometimes include demos on devices that include personal information, and we want parents to feel free to ask questions and share openly.

To preserve this safe space, we also ask that participants refrain from using AI note-taking tools (such as Otter.ai, Fireflies, or similar apps) during our sessions.
